Accessibility

At Wesley we are blessed to have persons with varying physical and mental abilities involved at numerous levels of our ministry. This also includes impairments that may not be visible, such as dyslexia or depression, and those of a temporary nature (such as injuries caused by accidents). We strive to create an environment that is fully inclusive of all persons and even have a separate Inclusiviness committee dedicated to that endeavor. Wesley has embraced the social model of disability, identifying ‘disabling barriers’ rather than an individual’s impairment as the issue to be addressed.

A few things you will find at Wesley

A supportive community that truly embraces all persons as they are.

5 entrances that are at grade level or have ramps. Our main doors off of our South parking lot also have power door openers.

2 elevators bringing access to all program areas.

2 Multi-sex, fully accessible bathrooms

Large print bulletins for our worship services (just ask an usher)

Hard-of-Hearing listening devices for use in our sanctuary.

Communion is brought to the pews for persons for whom it is challenging to walk to the front.

All emails and website images will have descriptive tags for those who cannot view them.

Audio copies of the previous week’s sermon in mp3 or tape form are available at the front office.

Periodic studies for special needs persons are offered.

Wheelchairs for in building use are available at our main doors off of the South parking lot.

If there are ways that we might remove other barriers please let Pastor Dan Crede (dkingcrede@wesleyui.org) or any of our staff know. In the past we have provided emails of the full text of our Sunday songs and PowerPoint’s so they could be “printed” in Braille ahead of worship. We have also brought in Signers when they have been requested.
